Pisa 2

We went into the Baptistry in the Field of Miracles and hiked up the stairs to the second level. We were treated to great views of the surrounding area (not as good as the tower though!). Construction on this building began in 1153 and this building actually leans six feet to the north, while the tower itself leans 15 feet to the south.

After hiking another set of stairs, we were welcomed into a large oval balcony. It was a great place to watch the people below. Noelle kept a sweater with her all the time; many of the religious sites we visited had a strict rule about all woman needing to have their shoulders covered.

Every 30 minutes one of the security folks will head to the center of the floor and sing to demonstrate the acoustics of the entire building. It's thought that the building was designed so that the building itself would act as a musical instrument.

The area that you see in the center of the video (at the start) is the actual baptistry. The large open area is for dunking adults, and the four smaller holes are for dunking babies.

Continuing our trek of willingness to hand our camera over to complete strangers, we asked someone to snap our picture here. We got a video instead of a picture. Oh well. We'll frame grab later.

Today we move to Venice!

Okay, Rob got me set up...well first I must say I go around humming the pizza pie song even when I don't want to!
Your pictures are awesome, your trip, well I just so excited to hear about all your adventures and I imagine the history your learning is fabulous.
Your missed, another weekend with dinner and the McGarvs.
Fall has sprung here, the trees are turning, it's rained the last couple days but the smell of the air is delightful.
Hugs to you both from Sharbert

We miss dinner with you guys too! Pop on over and we'll have some pasta. Seriously, I think we're both beginning to long for something more than pasta or pizza.
